Legal as a strategic business partner

Aligning your work with the organisation's priorities

Facilitated by Norton Rose Fulbright:

  • Stéphanie Hamon, Head of Legal Operations Consulting (Stephanie.Hamon@nortonrosefulbright.com)
  • Tammy Heydenrych, Managing Consultant Legal Operations (Tammy.Heydenrych@nortonrosefulbright.com)
  • Tom Evans, Senior Legal Operations Consultant (Tom.Evans@nortonrosefulbright.com)

The top three key takeaways explored in this session were…

1. Legal needs a strategy

To be a strategic business partner, Legal needs to have a strategy and that strategy should be aligned to and designed to support the wider business strategy.

However, you shouldn’t stop there – a good strategy should be supported by a clear and prioritised roadmap for your team with metrics and appropriate KPIs to measure and track success.

2. Stakeholder value mapping

Do you know who your stakeholders are and what they value? How do you know this?

Undertaking a stakeholder value mapping exercise can be a useful way to align with your stakeholders and inform your service delivery and engagement model. Knowing if they value no frills, efficiencies over a relationship driven approach for example, could pave the way for more self service.

3. Strategic storytelling & engagement

So, you have a clear strategy and know what your stakeholders value…how do you connect with them to drive improved alignment, collaboration and position legal as a strategic business partner?

Backed by science, people have been telling stories since the beginning of time and storytelling techniques are an invaluable tool in your toolbox.
